Taken alive

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III • You have captured the beastly Infiltrator • 10G • 39.97% of gamers unlocked this

My journey through my game library continues today, finally getting a chance to play through one of the January Games with Gold titles – Van Helsing 3. I didn’t even really have any awareness of this series, I think there may have been one of the games released about the same time as the Hugh Jackman film of Van Helsing, but I’m just clutching at straws.

Other than getting through the first mission this morning, I’ve been really struggling in the heat today. It’s essentially high 30’s (Google says about 98 degrees Fahrenheit) and it’s absolutely not sit-on-the-couch-and-play-games weather. It’s find-a-cool-spot-and-escape-the-world weather. I still have a sick kid, and one who is over excited to have me home for three days, and – if I’m perfectly honest – I’m really looking forward to being in an ice-cold office tomorrow and doing some mindless work.

The game of Van Helsing 3 has a pleasing Diablo-esque top-down view, but the upgrade process and base management is far more cumbersome than it should be. What’s even more frustrating is that the game simply says that there’s a tutorial section buried in the menus, but wherever it was, it certainly wasn’t intuitive – so there was a not-insignificant amount of trial and error, but if I’m perfectly honest, I’m still in early-game, so I don’t even know if I’ve been doing it right.

Right now, I’m trying to find ways to sneak a nap into my day, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen so I’m sitting by the pool on my phone knocking out a blog entry instead.

Life could be worse.
