Hello there! Welcome to my new project! Or perhaps not-so-new project if you’ve been following me the past few months on my personal blog, but either way thanks
for stopping by, and whatever path you took to get here, welcome!
I’ve attempted to give a bit of a rundown of what my challenge is over on the About page, but the gist of it is fairly self-explanatory. I’m going to try and earn an Xbox Achievement at least once a day, every day, for the next 12 months. I know there’s a lot of people who probably have met, or surpassed, this milestone inadvertantly. Others, like Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham are going on a three year-plus streak. But you’ll be surprised what a surprise work trip or a sick kid, or a power outage or the many viscittudes of life can do to get in the way of a decent gaming session and a guarenteed achievement (and time to write about it)!
At the start of this challenge, I’ve also made considerable dents in what I would consider ‘low hanging fruit’ achievements as well. Xbox PC games, the iOS collection and a lot of family games have all come and gone, and so I’m left hunting for easy games as ‘backups’ for those days when I need to meet my challenge but am running short on time. But it’s all part of the fun!
But for now, let’s get started.
The Telltale games are some of my favourite narratives to come out of games in the past ten years. Full Disclosure: I’ve finished Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 1 before. Multiple playthroughs, actually – PC, PlayStation 3, iOS and PS Vita; the game felt so revolutionary at launch that I played it a lot, but I never got around to an Xbox playthrough, and so now, five years after it first launched, I’m back with Lee and Clementine, and have just arrived in Savannah, GA (Episode 4).
I started playing this at midnight so that I’d have ‘something’ to show for my challenge on Day 1, so I was starting to fall asleep when the achievement popped, but sometimes that’s how it’s going to be. I have a healthy collection of Telltale games to work through this year, and sometimes, a lazy achievement is just what the doctor ordered.
There’s a better-than-reasonable chance I’ll get into some of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands later tonight, but for now, at Day 1, progress is tracking at 100%.
Again, thanks for coming along for the ride!
